Experimental life science combined with optotechnology

The center sets the goal to create a new field of industry, based on the optical manipulation
technologies in bioscience, as represented by optogenetics. One of the most fast-growing
techniques is now indispensable in the brain science, in which
the optogenetic control of neural activity elucidates the brain
function at the molecular level, as well as in the neural network
systems. We elucidate the molecular mechanisms of energy
conversion between light and biomaterials, which is
yet fully understood, by using advanced analytical
tools. The most promising seeds shall be identified
through the basic research, and we will grow them
to contribute the society to improve the quality of life.
